Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born in 1931 in Rameshwaram in Madras. He had three brothers and one sister. His ancestral house was built in the middle of nineteenth century. The Second World War broke in 1939 when Abdul Kalam was just eight years old. Abdul Kalam passed the Elementary School from Rameshwaram. After that he went to Ramanathapuram for study. He did his B. Tech. in Madras. He worked for two decades in ISRO and mastered Launch Vehicle Technologies. He played a very important role in building indigenous Prithvi and Agni Missiles. He also worked as a
Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister. He won many awards including the Padma Bhushan in 1981. Padma Vibhusham in 1990 and Bharat Ratna in 1991. The nation honoured Dr. Kalam by electing him the 11th President of India in 2002 to 2007. Dr. Abdul Kalam died on 27.07.2015 at the age of 83.
