Write a paragraph on any one of the following in about 60 words:

(i) Importance of trees

A tree is a wonderful symbol of the mystery and vitality of life. It is beautiful and useful unit of nature. A tree brings man near his creator. Garden and forests are made of trees and by trees. They are sung of by poets. Nursed by horticulturists and worshipped as the abodes of divinities by millions in India. Trees help to attract rain and conserve the soil. Trees bring into being a protective defence against desert conditions. They provide food, fuel and timber. They render the climate more equstable.

(ii) Hostel life

Students live in the hostels for better preparation for their studies. There is a great difference in life at home and hostel-life. At home a student is free. He remains in the guidance and care of his parents. They try to provide him all sorts of comforts. Such comforts and affections cannot be found in hostels. In hostels a student gets more freedom and better opportunities for the development of his personality and to prepare his courses of study much better. Hostels also teaches student how to live together. They have to get up early in the morning and to read during study period. In the evening they have to play some games. Thus they develop the qualities of their education, love co-operation and friendless.

There are some disadvantages also of hostel-life. Sometimes the students develop bad habits in bad association of some other students. They spend their time in undesirable activities and neglect their studies. It must not be done for career-building.

(iii) A Village Fair

A village fair is almost like a periodical market. Most of the villages are far from towns. So, the village fair serves the needs of villagers. It is generally held in a big spacious place outside a village. A central site is chosen so that other neighbouring villages may not be very far from it. Stalls which are temporarily erected are arranged in rows. Shopkeepers from towns and villages hire those stalls. They bring various kinds of things for display and sale. Vast crowds gather to see and buy things. The cinema, circus, magic shows, etc., visit these village fairs to entertain the crowd. A fair is a place where villagers meet their friends and relatives. The village fair lasts for about a week.

(iv) Pollution

Pollution is the biggest problem facing the modern man. All advancement becomes useless if man does not get the very basic necessity of life. That is fresh air. And only trees can do this service to man. Unluckily man, in his ignorance has so far been destroying this wealth. In fact, he has been digging his own grave. Only recently governments become aware of the gravity of this problem various steps have been taken to keep the environment free from pollution.
